Kenneth Cole VS. Wonderstruck

Perfume ads generally target a younger market.  Most perfume ads are targeting from teens to late twenties.  The Kenneth Cole ad for his fragrance shows a attractive male and female in their early twenties with the caption " Wear me out".  The couple look very intimate they are just about to graze lips.  The ad is very sensual and suggests if you wear this fragrance you will be completely irresistable. It even goes further to suggest that if you wear this cologne your woman will be spellbound by you so much so in fact it is like a special pheromone that attracts the opposite sex. The design of the bottle of Kenneth Cole is masculine, sexy, metal looking, clean lines, sensual. Looking at the ad I would say that the fragrance notes are probably musk, ginger, vanilla. or something sensual and similar.  Kenneth Cole cologne is completely in contrast to  the ad for the Taylor Swift perfume Wonderstruck.  The taylor swift ad although it doe's have somewhat of a sensual note it is a much sweeter innocent ad.  The ad is probably targeted at a young to upper teenage girl.  It suggests innocence, sweetness, romance, prince charming, chandeliers, fairy tales.  You almost expect to see in the background a young handsome man riding up on a white horse.  It suggests if you use this your dreams will come true. The look of the bottle of Wonderstruck is sweet, feminine.  It's shape is elegant, purple glass with delicate gold charms of a star, a bird and a bird cage.  It almost looks like charms you would put on a bracelet.  It definitely attracts young women.  From looking at this ad I would assume this fragrance would have a floral note maybe gardenia, jasmine, and fruit.  Definitely something young and fresh smelling.  Both of these ads are selling a image.  A image that suggests happiness, contentment, love, sweetness.  Just what the targeted audience is looking for.

Luxury Duds (Critical Writing #2)

Interesting enough even though our economy is still struggling the average consumer is spending significantly more on luxury clothing items. The average consumer considers high end ticket fashion items as a status symbol. There is many various designer brands out there today with glossy ad's showing handsome young men and beautiful women in the latest fashions looking healthy, happy, wealthy like life is grand. What person would look at those ads and not want to be like them and emulate their fashion style. I myself absolutely love coach.  I often walk through the coach outlet just to look at the latest bag.  Although they are expensive they aren't out of reach. I do have a few bags, and whenever I use them I feel like they complete my outfit. I feel good when I am using my coach bags.  If there wasn't all the advertising about the Coach brand and the big hype about the store would I feel as excited about my purchase and get as much pleasure from using them absolutely not.  But for now I'm excited to go into the Coach outlet to see what bag I want to put on my Christmas list, and I'll feel awesome using it.
